Ready to make a splash in your career? WaterNSW is seeking an experienced Domain Architect - Data AI & IoT (Full-Time, Permanent) to join our Digital Partnerships & Data team.  

 

In this newly created role, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of WaterNSW's data, AI and IoT landscape. You will provide strategic and technical leadership to deliver secure, scalable, and interoperable platforms aligned to business priorities, with safety at the core. You’ll define and govern the target-state architecture across data, analytics, AI/ML, and IoT while enabling trusted, AI-ready data, supporting responsible AI adoption and integrating operational data into enterprise platforms that enables smarter decision-making.

What you’ll do:

 

  • Domain Leadership & Governance: Define and maintain the enterprise architecture for Data, AI, and IoT, ensuring alignment with business strategy. Lead the evolution of enterprise data and AI architecture maturity.  
  • Enterprise Data Strategy & Architecture: Shape the organisation’s data strategy, including data governance, quality, and lifecycle management. Design scalable, cloud-native data platforms and ensure alignment with enterprise integration, analytics, and AI frameworks to enable a single, trusted data environment.
  • Architecture Development, Innovation & Optimisation: Develop and maintain data, AI, and IoT frameworks. Champion innovation through AI/ML, automation, and advanced analytics while ensuring ethical, secure, and explainable AI adoption. Drive rationalisation and optimisation initiatives to deliver measurable business value.
  • Program Delivery & Architectural Assurance: Provide strategic architectural leadership for data, AI, and IoT components in projects. Validate designs against enterprise standards and integration requirements. Represent the data and AI architecture domain in governance and investment forums (internal and external), ensuring traceability from business outcomes to technical delivery.
  • AI Investment & Assurance: Assess new AI initiatives for technical feasibility, ethics, privacy, and governance compliance. Ensure initiatives are captured in the AI Investments Register and report assurance outcomes. Establish and maintain the enterprise AI governance framework, ensuring responsible, transparent, and compliant AI use across the organisation.

 

 

What we are looking for: 

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Extensive experience in enterprise data, AI, and IoT architecture with solid understanding of AI/ML, generative AI, model lifecycle, AI governance, risk classification, human oversight, explainability, bias, privacy and secure use of AI within enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on experience in rationalisation, optimisation, and integration of complex data platforms, with experience designing modern data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Snowflake or equivalent, including ingestion, transformation, lakehouse/warehouse patterns, semantic models, reporting, advanced analytics and AI-ready data products.
  • Ability to define target-state data architecture, data models, data flows, master data, metadata, lineage, data quality, ownership, stewardship and governance patterns across enterprise platforms.
  • Strong background in stakeholder engagement, influencing senior leaders, and guiding delivery teams.
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence.
