Infrastructure Planner

We operate one of Australia’s largest portfolios of dams and we’re seeking an Infrastructure Planner to help plan the next generation of water infrastructure that supports communities, industry, and the environment. 

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments and wants to contribute to long-term water security across New South Wales. You will lead short to medium-term capital planning, develop investment strategies and business cases, and guide projects through the investment lifecycle. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to prioritise investments that deliver safe, efficient and sustainable outcomes.

What you’ll do:  

• Lead capital investment planning by developing and prioritising infrastructure programs that deliver the best value for money while balancing risk, growth, asset lifecycle needs and regulatory obligations. 
• Influence strategic investment decisions through system-level analysis, investment planning and the development of evidence-based business cases that shape future infrastructure outcomes. 
• Develop medium-term Asset Management Plans that optimise service levels, minimise lifecycle costs and support sustainable asset performance. 
• Facilitate and influence stakeholders through workshops, planning forums and business engagement, building alignment on investment priorities and funding requirements. 
• Manage and oversee portfolio budgets to ensure infrastructure investments remain prudent, efficient and aligned with strategic objectives and regulatory expectations. 

What we are looking for:   

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent operational experience 
• Experience in infrastructure or capital investment planning, ideally within utilities, energy, resources, local government, or other asset-intensive industries. 
• Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, including planning, maintenance, renewal and long-term investment strategies. 
• Strong business case development skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear and compelling investment recommendations. 
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills, including the confidence to lead workshops, present recommendations and navigate competing priorities. 
• A collaborative approach and a track record of working effectively within multidisciplinary teams to achieve strategic outcomes.

WaterNSW operates the state’s dams, capturing and storing water, and then supplying it ready for distribution – for the environment, agriculture, industry and the community. With 41 major dams and hundreds of waterways across the state, we play a vital role at the source of the state’s water, delivering two thirds of all water used in NSW.
