Ready to make a splash in your career? WaterNSW is seeking an experienced Strategy & Architecture Manager (Full-Time, Permanent) to join our Digital Partnerships & Data team.

 

 

Reporting to the Head of Digital Partnerships & Data, this is a newly created role where you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving WaterNSW's digital strategy and enterprise architecture direction. Leading a team of Architects, you will provide strategic leadership across enterprise, domain, and solution architecture functions, ensuring technology investments are aligned with business priorities and deliver sustainable long-term value. You will be responsible for developing and governing the enterprise architecture roadmap, leading architecture governance forums, and guiding key technology decisions across the organisation. Operating at the intersection of business and technology, you will influence senior stakeholders, drive innovation and ensure technology solutions are secure, scalable, cost-effective and aligned with organisational standards, enabling WaterNSW to achieve its strategic objectives.

What you'll do:

 

  • Strategy & Planning - Translate business strategy into technology, data, and AI architecture roadmaps. Prioritise architecture initiatives and BAU optimisations to maximise value across WaterNSW. Collaborate with Digital Transformation, Delivery and PMO teams to align architecture priorities with program delivery schedules.
  • Enterprise Architecture & Optimisation - Lead the development and continuous improvement of enterprise architecture principles, frameworks, and standards. Oversee the development of reference architectures, patterns, and reusable asset. Ensure architectural decisions support interoperability, scalability, resilience, and sustainability. Drive iterative architectural rationalisation and optimisation, identifying opportunities to consolidate applications, platforms, and data solutions.
  • AI Investment & Assurance – Maintain the AI Register and roadmap, ensuring initiatives are prioritised, funded, and aligned with strategy. Oversee business cases and risk/privacy/ethics assessments, and coordinate with Finance, PMO, and the Digital, Cyber & AI Risk Advisor to track remediation, close audit actions, and provide regular assurance reporting to governance forums.
  • Engagement & Advisory - Act as a trusted advisor to senior business and technology leaders, influencing strategic decision-making through architectural insights. Partner with the business to understand strategic priorities and ensure solutions meet business, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Team & Capability Development - Lead and mentor a team of enterprise, solution, and domain architects, fostering a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation. Build organisational capability in architecture, and strategic planning. 

 

 

What we are looking for:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline with strong knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman). 
  • Demonstrated capability across entire architecture portfolio with a deep understanding of enterprise architecture, cloud, applications, integration, data, AI, and security landscapes.
  • Experience in rationalising, optimising, and consolidating complex technology environment, and in influencing and advising executives and senior stakeholders on technology strategy.
  • Experience working within both Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies, with the ability to adapt architectural guidance to suit different project delivery approaches.  
  • Familiarity with digital transformation practices, IT governance and regulatory requirements for end users within utilities or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Experience in or capability to lead architecture teams supporting both BAU and transformation programs. 
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence.
